Company
founded in June 1946 in Suwa by the brothers Masahico and Rokuichi
Yamada.
"Sankyo
Seiki Mfg Co Ltd was incorporated in June 1946 as a music box
manufacturer. Initially, craftsmen had made music boxes by hand, but in
1950, four years after incorporation, Sankyo Seiki established the world's
first mass production system of music boxes by mechanization. It has
produced a variety of music boxes, from high end products to products for
popular use, and soon climbed to become the largest music box manufacturer
in the world. In the latter half of the 1950's, when Japan entered the age
of high economic growth, the Company started production of industrial
equipment on the basis of precision technology, developed as a result of its
music box production. In 1957, it started production of 8mm movie cameras
and projectors and, in 1959, it started production of driving parts,
including micro motors and time switches, which were embedded in home
electric appliances. As a result, the Company accomplished a great
transformation to a precision equipment manufacturer from a music box
manufacturer. Thereafter, along with the advancement of electronics
technologies, it has expanded its product line-up to home electric
appliances and housing equipment, information device peripherals and
industrial equipment. In response to rapidly advancing digital technologies,
it has also developed new equipment materials and products as core elements
of optical and magnetic basic technology, which is the basic element of
digital technologies." (text:
